Art school as a foundation
Shapiro came from the Leningrad–St Petersburg artistic environment, where drawing, composition, proportion and spatial thinking were daily disciplines rather than decorative vocabulary.
From television to motion
Work in St Petersburg television brought academic visual culture into contact with titles, editing, movement and a new screen language. Later work in the United States extended that trajectory into music video, digital design and new media.
A continuing collaboration
